Progressive U offers students the opportunity to blog for scholarship funds
San Mateo, CA – Progressive U, an online blogging site and social welfare organization, is announcing the start of its Fall 2006 "Blogging for Progress Scholarship" contest. From October 1 to December 4, high school and college students have opportunity to create a blog and write about current events and social issues, ranging from global warming to discrimination to nuclear proliferation.
Students have the opportunity to win up to $1,000 in scholarships for their post-secondary education. Scholarship winners will be selected based on an accumulation of participation points throughout the contest period. To learn more about the contest, go to [link].
ProgressiveU.org received over 2 million hits during its Spring 2006 "Blogging for Progress Scholarship" competition, with members posting more than 10,000 blog posts.
"We were blown away by the enthusiasm of students during the spring scholarship contest, and by their success in making their voices heard. Many blog posts received thousands of hits and dozens, or even hundreds, of comments from all over the world," said Art Morgan, one of the founders of Progressive U.
Progressive U encourages students to become the next generation of leaders and influencers, and provides a place to communicate their thoughts about social problems, economic issues, and cultural conflict.
"Students write about a huge range of topics, but the main focus is on issues that affect society – that's what sets Progressive U apart from sites like MySpace or other blogging sites," said Morgan.
As Progressive U bloggers students become "citizen journalists," but they develop skills that will prepare them for careers in a broad variety of fields. Students can create innovative solutions to social problems and act as ambassadors in their communities, which can make an immediate yet lasting impact on society.
